In the undergraduate program of Education Sciences at the University of Cyprus, our team offers students the opportunity to attend the following courses: 

EPA 175: "Natural Sciences in Kindergarten: Environment and Living Organisms"


The primary aim of this course is for pre-service kindergarten teachers to gain experiences from the natural world, study its functioning, and appreciate the biotic and abiotic elements of the environment. The course also introduces and applies teaching methods for the natural environment and living organisms that are suitable for preschool education. Emphasis is placed on conducting and evaluating activities outside the classroom, experiential learning, and exploratory learning processes.

EPA 185: "Ecology and Environmental Education"

The course aims to prepare pre-service teachers for teaching ecology and environmental topics in the "Science" subject in primary schools, as well as for teaching "Life Education" and "Environmental Education" subjects. Consequently, the course seeks to equip students with the appropriate knowledge for teaching ecology and environmental topics. Another objective of the course is to connect environmental topics with the development of environmental literacy and environmental citizenship. The course also focuses on developing teaching skills suitable for ecology and environmental education, such as the ability to teach in both classroom and outdoor environments, the implementation of action research methods, and collaborative learning. Students will also explore primary school students' misconceptions about ecology and ways to address them.

EPA488: "Contemporary Educational Dimensions of Biology"

The main objective of the course is to familiarize pre-service teachers with modern teaching methods for topics related to living organisms, the natural environment, and the human body in primary schools.Trainees study primary school students’ initial perceptions of biological phenomena and explore teaching strategies to utilize them in the classroom. Special emphasis is placed on examining instructional approaches suitable for teaching biological phenomena, such as long-term experimental procedures, keeping live organisms in the classroom, outdoor studies, modeling, and using virtual learning environments.Additionally, the course addresses topics related to the nature of science and the ethical, social, and environmental aspects of scientific practice.
